Ugh…look at that mess up there.
Anyway, so far, so good…I suppose. I am still very much in the learning basics phase of my journey into Unreal Engine. I was following a basic character movement from a Youtuber/Developer called Cobra Code. I highly recommend his channel if you’re new to game dev, particularly if you’re trying to do 2D stuff in Unreal like me.
I followed his tutorial here:
Which allowed me to do this:
The only snafu I ran into was the asset pack he used for the character sprites was not available, so I had to improvise with my little kung fu anime character there, which I got from another asset library just for this tutorial. Other than that, I got the basics of Blueprints and flipbooks down for animating and controling game characters in Unreal Engine 5.
My next step in my Game dev journey will be making a fully functional 2d game, with enemies and a boss battle. I’ll be using a course I actually purchased from Unreal University here: https://www.unreal-university.com/home
Like my first tutorial, I’m using only pre-made pixel assets, which is nice since my final game will also be using pixel art I develop myself, so it will help me get a good idea of what all I need to develop on my own.
Wish me luck!
